Port Townsend Dog Training was co-founded by Suzanne Kernek of Discovery Dog Behavior and Training and Graham Welch of Faux Paws to create professional group training classes within the Port Townsend city limits. PT Dog Training aims to provide high quality and ethical training to help people learn to effectively train, manage and socialize their dogs.

Training creates effective communication between dog and their person, builds the dog’s focus on their handler in distracting situations and produces dependability of desired behaviors.

Suzanne Kernek is a certified professional animal trainer with 25 years of experience working with people and their animals. Suzanne began her professional career in Behavior and Training at the Marin Humane Society in Novato CA and moved on to become the Director of Behavior and Training at the Humane Society of Sonoma County. She has lived and worked as an animal professional in Jefferson County since 2016. Suzanne practices “least intrusive - most effective training methods” based on current behavioral science and applied behavior analysis. Suzanne is continuously keeping up on modern training practices by studying with the top names in the field, and renowned professors of behavioral science from accredited universities. She specializes in fear and aggression and focuses on helping dogs and their guardians discover desired behavior that is reinforcing and effective for both. Suzanne’s training ethics govern her approach to teaching people to help their dogs.

Graham Welch is a certified professional dog trainer and member of the IAABC from Port Townsend, WA. Graham has been interested in animal behavior and psychology since high school when he discovered John Locke, B.F Skinner and Pavlov. He began experimenting training nosework and basic scent detection to his dog 7 years ago which reignited his interest and led him to begin focusing his attention on working with dogs and studying behavior. Graham believes training should be fun for both humans and dogs and believes in using the most up to date scientific, minimally aversive and ethical methods.He attended Animal Behavior College , and continues to further his education in the field of Dog training, animal behavior and applied behavior analysis. Graham and his partner currently live with 2 cats, a trio of guinea pigs, Toshi the dog and 12 chickens he clicker trains in his off time.
